The music and manifesto of Tribe was as radical and empowering as any of the self-help jazz organizations of the period, and, like the Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians (AACM) in Chicago or Strata-East in New York, has been largely overlooked by the jazz establishment. Labels like Hefty and Soul Jazz have sought to address this by reissuing groundbreaking Tribe releases, responding to the demand from crate diggers and beat junkies alike.
