the WENDeLL HARRISON STORY



Born in Detroit in 1942 Wendell Harrison began playing piano under the tutelage of Barry Harris while at Northwestern High School where classmates included saxophonist Charles McPherson and percussionist Roy Brooks. He switched to clarinet and tenor saxophone before he reached his teens, earning his spurs playing on hometown sessions including backing Marvin Gaye as part of Choker Campbell's band.
